READER TESTIMONIALS

from Trisha Torrey, subject of Chapter 2, Reading Between the Lines

I’ve read a bit more than half of Fatal Care – and all I can say is WOW.

Keeping in mind that I ‘live’ in this world of patient safety and healthcare dysfunction, I think there are two points that strike me the most: first, that you have created real human beings that truly leap off the page. I’ve written accounts of my misdiagnosis odyssey. But you’ve made me into a real person, not a chronicled report. The others are the same way. It’s not about a 15 year old boy who died after surgery – it’s about a real boy, Lewis Blackman, who I now feel like I have lost, too.

But the bigger picture, and perhaps what I appreciate the most, and what separates your book from others, is your follow up in each chapter about how to translate each story into action items for patient safety.  That’s huge – HUGE. I appreciate that aspect the most because that’s what is lacking in all the other patient safety books that tell stories simply as a way to lay blame.
