I just finished Fatal Care - what a wonderful, well written book! All of the other books, reports, recommendations I have ever read seem to say - be an advocate for yourself and partner with your health care provider and you will fare much better in today's complicated health care system. Okay, that makes sense. But, what all of the other recommendations and books have failed to convey was just how to achieve that lofty goal.
Dr. Kumar's book not only explained how the problems arose, but how to avoid the pitfalls of those all too common errors together with detailed explanations of specifically what to watch out for. The important "Safety Keys" are exactly what the consumer needs to know to feel as protected as is realistic. Unfortunately, there will always be medical errors, near misses, and adverse events. Luckily though, the straightforward and practical advise given throughout this book on ways in which to become more educated about the care you should expect to receive, will prove a life saver for many patients.
Great book - I couldn't put it down!
